Becoming a Knight Requires Change.

“To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else - means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting.”

This incredible quote, by e. e. cummings, expresses the initial quest-goal of today’s aspiring Knight—that of attaining personal authenticity in a world that prefers consumerist-clones. It is recognizing the same challenge that faces everyone.

The quest we speak of is a learning process, yes, but it is a shedding process as well, chipping away at what Bruce Lee called “the inessentials” that others pile on. Knighthood begins when tough reality and inspiring ideals merge, and freedom begins.

This quest is very REAL and can be very demanding. You cannot come to Chivalry-Now, not take this major, life-transforming challenge, and still become a Knight. It is not a matter of “want to be,” but of “becoming.” It is not a passing whim, but a life-commitment to moral self-development.

If you then go about your everyday life as if nothing changed, chances are nothing has. If you harbor the same prejudices you had before, you still have plenty of work to do. If your concerns do not reflect the values of truth and the enthusiasm of building a better world… if you wallow in greed and ego and cleverness instead, you have quite a way to go. Do not be surprised if you sometimes go backwards. The quest has ways of making sure you learn what you need to know.

Attaining Knighthood comes with no guarantee. It is not meant to be an adornment of ego. If anything, it is the obliteration of ego designed to liberate your truest selves.

Becoming a Knight is serious business. Not everyone can do it. It takes hard work and self-examination, one step at a time, as your own particular quest (which is your life) dictates.

This is no reason to get discouraged. There are incredible benefits to be had even if you try and fail. With every step you take, the quest will expand your consciousness and nourish your virtues no matter how far you go.
